Day one of my second attempt. I have to thank everyone who helped so much to make this journey possible. Gordon found the truck at the Toyota used dealership. The guys at Access Van and Truck Accessories were very helpful with the roof rack fittings as well as a new hitch. Brian helped so much to reconfigure the load so it tows so much better. And John helped me add a metal box to the trailer tongue to hold all of the ‘gear’ and shift the weight onto the tongue. The whole process felt like starting a new job – requiring energy, attention – it was exhausting.
The drive from Guelph to Wiarton was rainy, and I took roads I was unfamiliar with – went through towns like Damascus, Ceylon, and Monck. Lovely countryside. Stopped in Wiarton for a few groceries and walked up and down the few blocks of the downtown to stretch my legs.
I had booked a spot at Rural Rootz, a place just outside of Wiarton, where I was welcomed by the host (they are listed on Harvest Hosts). I had to back into my site (which I eventually did – don’t laugh). I thought I had water, but didn’t, so had to fill with my bucket, and hooked up to the electricity, which I didn’t expect.
I also didn’t expect the gardens, and a class on following your intuition, taught by Dee. Interesting! You never know what to expect.
Doing some reading in “From Truth to Reconciliation: Transforming the Legacy of Residential Schools” where I discovered that David Bohm, the philosopher who was central to my thesis on metaphysics of religion and science, had met with Indigenous leaders and Banff and discussed Indigenous spirituality, metaphysics, and world view, finding it congruous with quantum theory and Western science generally. I had never heard about this and have to know more – rather like the universe giving me a nudge. So I’ll be trying to find out more about these meetings and what they discussed.
Tomorrow I drive to Tobermoray and take to the ferry to Manitoulin Island. I hope the weather will be better – it’s cold!
