Tuesday June 4th

I arrived at the cabin near Wingham on Sunday and unhitched the trailer - leaving it there. Monday I came home to Guelph, feeling pretty down.

Today I arranged for the purchase of a 2016 Toyota Tacoma! It's amazing! Trailering package, all the bells and whistles. Once I get over spending that much money (it's always hard - the attention to pennies runs deep) I think I'll be over the moon. Everyone I've consulted with are relieved and happy that I will be in a more appropriate vehicle.

Here's hoping that the final mechanical checks are all positive. I will know by Thursday.

I traded in my little 2007 Subaru Forester, and I'm feeling pretty guilty about abandoning an old friend. But life goes on. At that age, much like me, malfunctions can occur at any time, and it did a great job teaching me a lesson about towing and getting me home safely afterwards.

Thanks to all the people who supported me - John, Gordon, brother Bill, and Brian (who I've never met - a cousin of friend) as well as Anne next door! to steer me in the right direction. I'm hoping to set off again next week! I hope to go up to the cabin after picking up the truck on Saturday in order to hitch up and bring her back to Guelph on Sunday when John will return from his annual adventure. Then I'll be off again the next day!

In the meantime, I can relax, regroup, and look forward to the next round of this adventure. Oh, and arrange to pay for the truck!

  1. Sounds great. Glad you are going to get right back on the horse and ride it. The Tacoma is a great vehicle. Sounds perfect. We have the big brother Tundra and love it.
