Huge storm last night at my overnight stay at Waterfall Lodge near Massey.! Rain and gusts of wind which shook the camper – but I stayed dry and comfortable. Sleep was difficult, however. Got up and used my shower for the first time – it was surprisingly nice! Small, but you end up being clean AND having a clean bathroom!
Of course the minute I stepped out of the camper I regretted washing my hair. Every black fly within a mile made a bee line for my hair! Better to be slightly smelling than squeaky clean apparently.
Nice drive up to Lake Superior Provincial Park through Sault Ste. Marie again – this time I stopped only for groceries and gas, arriving in my campsite around 2pm in glorious sunshine. The minute I stepped from the truck I saw a bird I hadn’t seen before – a warbler sized bird with black and orange. No internet so I can’t look it up.
So beautiful here. A pot of tea, a book and my chair were a great way to start my stay, followed by a walk. It’s cool – I have the heat on in the camper – but very pretty. Sitting reading, a red headed woodpecker landed on a nearby pine.
The only downside are the black flies which make relaxing in a chair a bit of a challenge – and usually short lived. Early to bed and slept for 9 hours. Woke in the night to peak out the window – and saw a huge moon covered in mist between the pines. Had it not been so chilly I’d have ventured out – but instead snuggled into my nest for more sleep. The campsite is blissfully silent.
No cell service. No wifi. It’s kind of freeing.
Blackburnian warbler. OR an American Redstart. Blackburnians are boreal forest birds, only tourists in southern ontario.
